Feeling Sketchy Week 37

Hi there, I don't know about you but one week just blends into another at the moment. Today I actually managed to spend a bit of time in my craft room and for once my mojo came with me LOL!

Jess D has come up with another great sketch for us to play with this week at Feeling Sketchy

I have used all Stampin Up! products on this card including a sneak peek at an up coming promo stamp and punch set but you will have to wait to hear about that. I took the colours from the butterfly paper and went with that. I hope you like my entry this week.

I really enjoyed making this card, I am so over Christmas cards!

JAI #137 Happy 50th

Hi There,

One of my work colleagues is turning 50 this week so I gathered inspiration from the sketch at Just Add Ink to make her a card. I decided on soft colours and my all time favourite stamp set "Bordering on Romance".

Here is the sketch:

The colours I have used are Pink Pirouette, Primrose Petal, Pool Party, Baja Breeze and a touch of Always Artichoke, oh and course Whisper White. Very pretty colours together. This is the best image for using the "Out of the Box" technique with my dies so I couldn't go past adding that to the oval centerpiece.

It's been how long??

What better way to find the motivation to blog than a New Stampin' Up! catalogue.  My change of roster and work responsibility has greatly impacted on my time (and motivation) to blog, but now things have settled at work and I have just aquired a new laptop, I plan to change that.

Today, being Father's Day here in Australia, I thought I would share the card I have made my Dad using the fabulous French Foliage stamp set from Stampin' Up! I absolutely love the versatility of this stamp set and the watermark stamp just about never leaves my desk atm.

 

To create this card you first need to cut a square to your desired size to use as a mask. Place mark on card and using a sponge fill in with colour. Here I have used crumb Cake. Than, keeping the mark in place, stamp the script stamp and Paris mark from the set in a slightly darker shade such as Soft Suede. Using the rocking technique, colour up the leaf stamp in Cajun Craze and Always Artichoke. Stamp and emboss in clear. Cut this piece to size and mount on CC and AA card.

The sentiment was then inked in Always Arti and using the blender pen to remove ink I have highlighted the key words in CC.This was stamped onto a 13cm x 13cm square card.

Add a few strips of co-coordinating card (don't you just LOVE SU!'s Co-coordinating inks and card stock) and your card is finished.

Swing Easel Card

Hiya,
Today I am sharing a card I have made for my Niece, Amelia, turning two.

I have used the girl on a swing from the retired stamp set A Kind Word. I just had to do an open easel card to really set this swinging girl off. The blue area has been sponged using the cupcake punch (cake top) as a mask. This is my favorite way to create clouds.

 Simply punch out the top in scrap card and then place it where you would like the cloud to appear and sponge over the top section. I have used Bashful Blue ink on the same coloured cardstock but also works great using white cardstock. Move mask and repeat until you are happy with the coverage.


Little Leaves layered over each over form the tree at the top and Certainly Celery cardstock double punched with the scallop border punch creates the grass. There is also another grassy section at the back that shows through under the girls feet! Itty Bitty punched flowers scatter the lawn and also the tree so the vine running down the swing ropes all ties in together. And what flower would be complete without a basic pearl to center it? How cute is this card!

Because I Care

This evening I would like to share this card I made for my Mum's birthday using the delightful Because I Care hostess stamp set and the new Texture Plate from Stampin' Up! that you will find in the Summer Mini.
The colours I have put together are probably my favourite combinations in Old Olive and Rich Razzleberry, I have also added some accents with Blushing Bride.
 To get the lovely soft colour in the hydrangea, I first stamped the image onto Very Vanilla card stock using Old Olive on the stem and Blushing Bride on the flower head. Taking my aqua pen, I then light swirled over the whole flower head image which just softened off the lines and allowed the colour to bleed into the petals. Next I took my stamp-a-ma-jig and carefully lined up the image, this time inking up the flower head only in Rich Razzleberry. Again using my aqua pen, I blended some of the colour from the flower centers out into the petals. This just gave the flower some depth, but be careful not to let it get too wet or you begin to loose the crisp outline of each flower and that gives the whole image a blurry kind of look.
I used Blushing Bride and Rich Razzleberry to blend the edges of the card stock. I layered this onto a piece of Old Olive which I scalloped down one side.
I love the new texture plate, it almost gives your card stock a fabric kind of look. I have ran a piece of Rich Razzleberry through the Big Shot and sponged the edges of both that and the DSP i have layered it on. This all got added to the Old Olive card base. A piece of ribbon from the mistletoe bonus that was available in the Dress Up Christmas Promo and what you see is the end result.
No card is complete without a lovely center, so I used the single petal and the leaves off the flower, the sentiment is from the Every Moment stamp set, which by the way, my Mum loved the saying.

Masking

Good Morning

Today I am going to share with you a card or rather a technique I am going to demo on the weekend. As I am just a new Stampin' Up! demonstrator, signed up under my sister, she has asked if I would like to Demo at a workshop with her to get a feel for it so this is what I am going to do. There will be quite a few beginner card makers at the workshop that haven't been stamping for long, so I am going to show how you can get the most out of your stamps by masking. Two ways of masking that I will be teaching is the layering technique where you stamp your image to be used onto scrap paper, in this case the large flower out of the Scribble This set, cut it out and then use it to mask the flowers you have already stamped so you can layer them up over each other. The second is masking of part of the stamp so you can add more than one colour. I have used the sentiment stamp from For Everything set and masked the small writing with a sticky note while I inked up the stamp in Pear Pizzazz ink and then removed the mask and coloured the small writing with  Peach Parfait Marker. Basic technique, I know, but with great results!

Hi again, I told you I have been busy in my room with no time to post so here goes, I am about to make up for it. I have had this red and black spotty paper in my stash for a while now and never got around to using it. When I received my new Stampin Up " A flower for all seasons" stamp set and saw that cute little ladybug climbing up the side of the sunflower, I couldn't resist!!! So I quickly foraged through my stash and pulled out this sheet of paper and off I went.Naturally the ladybug was the whole inspiration for the card and anyone who knows me, knows it doesn't take much for me to be inspired by ladybugs...I LOVE THEM. Anyway because of that it is only artistically natural for my sunflowers to be of course red instead of the traditional colour of yellow. Yellow just would not work! The paper had a few blue grungy bits so this was the perfect highlight colour to add to the layout. Luckily I was given a clear stamp set by my lovely sister who no longer was using them and it just happen to have the sunflower that I have used on the base of, yep you guessed i, the easel card. I cut a tag from the Red Tag Sale cuttlebug alpha set after printing my saying on the computer, and added the oh so cute ladybug to finish. My niece was the lucky recipient of this card on Monday. Baby Card for Harry

Here it is....... do you like it?? I decided to try out one of these side step cards. I have seen them used especially on Magnolia blogs and thought I would give it a go. I think I still need to work on the folds for the steps because it doesn't quite sit right but all in all I like the result. The card stock I have used is from the Peek-a-Boo range by Kaiser. I really love the soft mint colours in this so used that as my highlight colour. I coloured the very cute digi image using Stampin Up markers and a blending pen. The Bundle of Joy is from a foam stamp set that I picked up off a throw out table for about $2. I can't even remember what shop!! Anyway again I used the Stampin Up marker to ink it so everything coordinated nicely. I simply stitched around all the peices on my sewing machine before I mounted them just to add that little extra something.

Inside Card

I really like the idea of this kind of card so will have to investigate some more and maybe find a template so I can get my folds to sit a little better.
Now I just have to get over this cold so I can go and visit our new little bundle of joy.

40th Birthday Card

Hi, I know I know it has been ages since I last posted. Sorry about that, no excuses, I just haven't made the time to do it. Mid July to early September is an extra busy card making time for me. I have 9 family birthdays in about the space of 5 weeks, not to mention Fathers Day and I have officially decided to try and make sure every one of my work collegues receives one of my handmade cards for their birthdays. So that adds about 6 more to the list....phew. No wonder there has been a lot going on in my craft room.

The first card I am going to share with you is one I did for my sister-in-laws 40th birthday. I used the watering can image from the Stampin Up Nice and Easy Notes. I have been using this set a bit lately because the images work well with my colouring techniques. The chocolate cardstock I stamped with the Seeing Spots set also from Stampin Up. The flowers, butterfly and numbers are from Cuttlebug and the leaves are from Sizzix. This image I coloured using a number of different mediums including my Pro Markers for can, distress ink for flower center on the image and blending on the flowers and butterfly and then Stampin Up markers for the petals and heart and flower centers. I then used my distress ink to colour the inside cardstock so it all matched in together. Yep I know another easel card!! Until next time........... Dani xoxox
